Running Up This Hill

Yesterday was round 3 of chemo.  Which means I'm 25% done. Which sounds comforting, but really makes this whole thing feel like running a marathon. In fact I am reminded of my dad's words of wisdom ten years ago when I told him I was going to Boston to watch the marathon:  "whatever you do, do NOT stand at the 16 mile mark and scream 'you're almost there!'"  I think that happened to him when he ran the Detroit marathon and he almost punched someone.

In general it went pretty well. I read part of the Vanity Fair article on Lindsay Lohan (Lindsay's always good for making a girl feel better about whatever is going on in her own life,) took a little benadryl nap and woke up to my sister bringing me a very yummy lunch that did not make me nauseous.  Plus I got to wear this awesome t-shirt courtesy of Misty. I'm gonna call all of that a win.

The only downside was the nurse had a hard time finding a good vein for the IV.  This is particularly worrying because I don't usually have problems with my veins, so it could mean the drugs are starting to take their toll on my insides.  And that means I think I might have to abandon this whole pipe dream of not getting a port.

For those of you who don't know about the port, it's a device that gets implanted in  your chest and allows the nurses to administer the chemo drugs directly and isn't as hard on the veins.  I was trying to avoid it, because it involves another surgery and who wants that?  Then again, I wanted a pony for my birthday and I didn't get that either, so...

I'll know more about the port surgery tomorrow so stay tuned for breaking news on that front!

Well... Ponies are far more expensive and trouble than they are worth. I'll keep a 'smooth ride' in my thoughts, whatever the mode of transport. Thanks for the update.

Erin, I saw your t-shirt and it reminded me of a story that a friend of mine who beat prostate cancer told me.

Look up a man by the name O. Carl Simonton. He was a medical doctor who came up with a visualization technique that entailed seeing your white blood corpuscles (the immune system of your body) as being big strong white husky dogs that went and found cancer cells and ripped them apart with their fangs. He taught this technique to little children who were terminal due to leukemia. Being kids, they thought of it as a game and loved visualizing this. Dr. Simonton reported such large success rates of cure of cancer that the medical establishment was in shock and often refused to believe him.

You can find some of his affirmations on amazon.com.

Not trying to tell you what to do but just sharing what I know from another man who I regard as a true healer since he healed himself of prostate cancer.

Hang tough and beat them bugs. You deserve a full, satisfying and rich life.

I second Michael David's comment. I'm picturing Nikki chasing all of the cancer cells and slobbering them to death. Take that cancer!! GRRRR...

Hey Erin...
I 3rd what Michael David said...
My mom used to teach us that when we were sick as kids... and I always visualized a big army inside me that would attack the illness and wipe it out!
Mind over matter is strong!
Love you and I'm thinking of you sista! Hang in there.... xoxoxo

Hey Erin!! Keep charging on girl!! You can do this marathon!! Speaking of marathons, the Detroit marathon was last weekend. John had to work it and his brother ran in it. His brother actually drank beer while running!! I guess some people were setting up for their parties and had cups of beer out! Too funny! I like your Dad's advice about watching a marathon, I could totally see John doing that!! LOL Stay strong! Know your being prayed for everyday!! Love & miss you!! erica*
